Data Fusion, Consolidation, and Searchability

Physical security does not just mean surveillance and security staff. Information management is a huge part of any physical security system’s foundation. Much of the challenge is not only gathering data but accessing it effectively and quickly. Without accessible data to inform decisions quickly, then how effective can our monitoring system really be?

For example, say you are working for law enforcement and your monitoring system has license plate readers, but you do not have your data easily accessible for which are the license plates of persons of interest or stolen vehicles. Having data easily accessible will allow your team to quickly respond to an unfolding situation.

Data and collected information on security threats, patterns of security failure, persons of interest, risk factors, and data collected on red-flag issues for analysis need to be at the fingertips of security personnel to effectively to their jobs. A police station may need to use such a system for tracking criminal activity, license plates of stolen vehicles, fingerprints and evidence logged into many disparate systems regarding persons of interest.

Unifying existing data systems into a functioning whole, you can start with what your enterprise has already invested in and leveraged. A new solution does not necessarily mean more hardware. If all aspects of your security system are linked into one accessible dashboard, critical information can be accessed quickly and painlessly. Edge360’s Slingshot is a “data fusion” appliance that leverages data from multiple sources in a variety of formats. It indexes the data to be easily searched and accessed by the end user to decrease response time. The appliance interfaces with the speed of a robust search engine, then provides a summary of data results in a consistent format.

Slingshot emphasizes “speed of discovery;” the appliance creates and accesses a summary of available data and searches the summary rather than all the databases. Once the data is discovered, retrieval focuses on a single record rather than having to scan the entirety of the databases. Installation would be based on each physical location and each installed appliance can compile and process local databases, accommodating up to 30 million records and 50 users with each user interface. Appliances can communicate with other appliances at other locations and the data is accessible and protected in the cloud, so only those given access can retrieve the data stored there.
